He liked the look of all of them, totaling the cost per spider.

Four hundred flux! But are the goblins better fighters than the drudge? Is that what I’m being told.

He had flux, but with the up-and-coming temple build, and with the new dungeon builds, the expansion, his rapidly changing plans, he didn’t want to waste anything. But, forming an elite force would make sense.

System, can I name different forms of spider minion?

You may.

Call a spider with no modifications Common, a spider with the first level of modifications Melee, and the spiders with both modifications Elite. Please list the numbers and types of spider minion currently available to me.

I have taken the liberty of adding sub-classes.

Queen: 1, Elite: 0, Melee: 349, Common: 309, Hatchling: 124.

John winced. Semoliola had lost around a third of her forces. He guessed the final push to the Eberdine Spine had been brutal, and thanked fuck he’d sent her a couple of hundred reinforcements. It made up his mind. He needed his army as effective as possible, but to upgrade from Common to Elite would be nine hundred plus flux per spider. But, there was no point in upgrading all spiders. Semoliola would need workers, spinners and whatever else spiders needed to maintain a colony. He chose to upgrade half of the Melee, sending Semoliola a note to that effect and asking her what she needed.

“I will deploy the upgraded spiders to the front lines and use the Melee to patrol the spines. It will take me several days to repopulate my swarm, then I will send you a list of what I need for your appraisal. I would wish to discuss the drudge at some point in your future, if you would graciously spare me the time.”

John thanked her, assuring he would talk with her, and closed his eyes. He had to think about Ellie’s trip to Eberdine. He understood she need to go, and her need to persuade rather than coerce, but it didn’t mean he liked it.

Tiredness washed over him again, but sleep evaded him, and for once, although he searched out Mia, he could find no trace of her. He pondered the Thunder Gang, and whether they would play a part in the coming days and weeks. They seemed insignificant, given what had happened, but underestimating a foe was never a great move. He needed to know where their camp was. It was an odds-on bet it was somewhere near Eberdine, if not in the town itself.

He thought about testing out the Area Surveillance Room but thought he had enough to deal with. Shoving thoughts of the Thunder Gang to the back of his mind, he decided it was time to go and see Miskin and update him on recent events.

Even though the old wizard had steadfastly refused to swear minionship to him, John wanted to make it clear to him that should the dungeon’s influence encroach further into the tower, he would be powerless to help the wizard.
